Stone Molding, Borders

Generally, the only time doorway trim isn't required is when adjoining rooms are both tiled, in which case a neat grout line will do the trick However, exposed edges of natural stone floor tiles will be different in color and unpolished, therefore a plastic or metal trim should be used.

4 easy ways to finish tile edges:

1. Caulk the Edge. This is the easiest and most cost-effective solution.
2. Rail Moldings. Coordinating tile moldings in natural stone and porcelain are usually readily available.
3. Metal Trims. Metal edges are available in a wide array of styles and finishes.
4. Create a Bullnose Edge on tiles.

Pencil liners are thin, nearly cylindrical stone tile pieces placed along the edges of your mosaic tiles as a raised frame for them. Pencil liners clean off the edge of a design well without making it too busy. Chair rails serve as a more ornate version of pencil liners.

Yes. Grout the trims/border tiles with the rest of the installation. Use a grout float to push the grout into the spaces around the stone border tiles by dragging the float at a 45-degree angle to the field tiles as it approaches the area around the trim.
